Youth Mental Health & Queen Maxima

In her recent visit to Texas, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands took a trip to the rural community of Bastrop, Texas. To hear from local youth Queen Maxima was hosted by Dr. Octavio Martinez (Hogg Foundation for Mental Health) Krystal Grimes (Resilient Bastrop County Initiative/ AMMA) and the International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership.

The youth of Bastrop County provided engaging insight into their mental health challenges and possible solutions in panel and sit-down discussions lead by Krystal Grimes. Additionally, to honor this visit, September 8th was declared "Youth Mental Health Day" by Bastrop County Commissioners and County Judge Paul Pape through a proclamation written by Resilient Bastrop County Initiative and the Hogg Foundation. This move bringing awareness to the importance of youth resilience.

Eager to bring attention to the mental health initiatives of rural communities, local youth and community leaders look forward to hosting the 2nd annual Bastrop County Youth Summit in 2023 to bring additional resources and attention to the needs of today's youth.

The visit from Her Majesty proved to be a breathe of rejuvenation towards the work needed to ensure resilience and wellbeing for generations to come.
